Niigata City adopts the monitoring app "cotchi cotchi™" to prevent children from being left behind

Focus Systems Corporation(Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Mori Keiichi; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") is pleased to announce that its IoT application "cotchi cotchi" has been adopted by Niigata City and will be introduced to daycare centers within the city as an ICT service to prevent children from being left behind during off-site childcare.

[Background to adoption]

In response to recent tragic accidents involving children being left behind on buses, the installation of safety devices to prevent children from being left behind on shuttle buses has become mandatory for childcare facilities from March 2023, and more than 90% of childcare facilities have completed the installation.*¹

On the other hand, the "Collection of Near Miss Cases in Educational and Childcare Facilities, etc." for 2022 reported by the Japan Economic Research Institute, Inc.*² revealed that a quarter of near misses occurred during off-site childcare, highlighting the importance of safety measures outside of buses.

Given this background, Niigata City has decided to adopt a total of 83 sets of "cotchi cotchi" to prevent children from being left behind when going out for childcare.

[Overview of "cotchi cotchi"]

Based on the concept of "Simple!", "cotchi cotchi" has children wear a BLE beacon (FCS1301) during outdoor activities such as walks around the nursery school, and by starting the app on a smartphone, an alert notification is sent to the smartphone and smartwatch if the child moves beyond a certain distance from the nursery teacher, preventing them from being left behind.
