Introduction:The future of women is expanding with Femtech

Utilizing the results of joint research with Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics (Professor Masanori Bandai and Assistant Professor Miho Egawa), we will develop a smartphone app that records symptoms of PMS *¹/PMDD * 2 , which are illnesses specific to women, and verify its feasibility in managing women's health and its effectiveness in improving symptoms. By recording symptoms, women will be able to notice changes in their physical condition and use that information to improve their self-care and treatment, thereby aiming to realize a society in which women can play active roles without physical or mental burden.

(*¹) Premenstrual Syndrome: A disease in which various unpleasant mental and physical symptoms appear before menstruation and repeatedly subside with the onset of menstruation.
(*²) Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A type of PMS that has particularly severe psychological symptoms and significantly interferes with daily life.

background:Paramenstrual symptoms and mental illness are obstacles to promoting women's empowerment

Due to efforts to promote women's empowerment and work style reforms, there is a growing interest in promoting women within companies, but the current situation is that the physical and mental support of working women has not kept pace. It is said that there are about 200 different physical and mental symptoms of PMS/PMDD, and many women work while suffering from these symptoms.
For this reason, Femtech, which uses technology to solve problems faced by women, is attracting attention and being promoted nationwide. There are already countless apps in the world that record women's menstruation, but there are very few that have an academic basis for diagnosing or caring for PMS.

Content:Apps that lead to PMS/PMDD diagnosis and medical condition evaluation

PMS/PMDD is diagnosed based on the patient's own daily symptom records, but the methods and content are not standardized, and the communication to doctors is undeniably complicated and complicated.
Symptom recording is not only useful for diagnosis, but it has also been pointed out that recording symptoms may reduce PMS symptoms and difficulties in daily life. Kyoto University has already created a Japanese version of the recording tool (DRSP* 3 ), which is said to be the most reliable overseas, and has verified its validity and reliability. In this initiative, we will develop a symptom recording smartphone app that allows you to input DRSP items on a daily basis. From the first half of 2022, we will use the app to help women who are actually suffering from PMS symptoms but have not yet received treatment to track their symptoms and their lifestyle. We will verify usability, such as whether the problem has been improved and the ease with which recording can be continued.

Expectations:Plays a part in PMS treatment application as a medical device

This app plays an important role as a module that makes up the PMS treatment medical device program (SaMD * 4 ), which Kyoto University is aiming to develop in the future. It is also expected to be used as a data collection tool in various clinical trials.
