Introduction: Progress of our IoT solution in livestock industry assistance project in Shiga Prefecture

In collaboration with the University of Shiga Prefecture, the Shiga Prefecture Livestock Technology Revitalization Center, and tiwaki Co., Ltd., our company has completed the ``Shiga Prefecture Near Future Social Implementation Promotion Project in 2021'' with certain results.
Through this project, we have also made progress in demonstration experiments of a high-precision positioning solution that combines beacons and directional receivers developed by our company, such as identifying the optimal placement method to obtain highly accurate positioning results. did.
Based on the results obtained through this project, we aim to develop demand for IoT in a wider range of industrial fields.

Background: Difficulties in fattening calves faced by the livestock industry

IoT products have become explosively popular in recent years, and their spread is expected to accelerate further in the future.
In the livestock industry, there is still a lot of hard labor and manual labor by workers, and although issues such as aging, lack of successors, and increased costs are prominent issues, many IT solutions that support livestock farming are targeted at adult cattle. Currently, there are few products targeted at calves.

Content: Detecting signs of changes in calf physical condition using IoT

Based on the "Shiga Prefecture Industrial Promotion Vision 2030," this project provides grants for demonstration experiments or feasibility studies aimed at the social implementation of near-future technologies in Shiga Prefecture. It's about development.

[Selected project name]

Demonstration project related to labor saving in Omi beef and calf production using collar-type IoT devices

[Demonstration guidelines]

  1. Attach a BLE beacon to the calf and obtain the calf's location information in the livestock barn.
  2. Analyze movement trends (acceleration sensor)
  3. Analyzing the correlation between exercise tendencies and health status
  4. Individual identification trial using image analysis and consideration of the scope of application of image analysis

[Business results]

  1. Discovering abnormal values in the calf's ``signs of changes in physical condition'' and ``estimated movement tendency'' This is expected to reduce the rate of attrition due to disease in calves before shipment.

  2. Development of a customizable position display application <br />By developing a position display application, it is now possible to observe calf behavior from a remote location. The application also allows you to customize drawings according to the needs of various industries.

Expectation: Decrease in attrition rate by detecting signs of deterioration of physical condition

This project began with the goal of reducing the attrition rate of beef cattle by about 2 percentage points, and we were able to discover a relationship between the physical condition of calves and their tendency to exercise.
In the future, we aim to use our knowledge and know-how to improve the reliability of the system and detect signs of deterioration in calf health at an early stage. We plan to continue collaborating with each other in the future in order to proactively promote IT and resolve the current challenges in calf rearing.
